Volunteer Information

St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic would cease to exist if our volunteers didn’t make it happen. With over 1600 patients served at our clinic in 2009, and one in five Spartanburg County residents lacking health insurance, the demands on our resources are at an all-time high. We continue to see more patients, fill more prescriptions, and provide more services year after year.

St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic welcomes those willing to volunteer time and talent to our clinic. We have many areas of expertise comprising our team of volunteers.

Please call 542-2273 ext. 24 if you are interested in volunteering.

If you are a physician or pharmacist interested in volunteering, please call CEO Patsy Whitney at 542-2273 ext. 26.  Interested volunteers may print the attached volunteer information form and mail it to

Healing Hands and Caring Hearts Award 2009

The Healing Hands & Caring Hearts Award recipients are chosen by
fellow board members to recognize outstanding service, dedication
and commitment to the mission of St. Luke’s. Dr. Peter Moore
was chosen in 2009 for his deep involvement with the Clinic. He orchestrated our annual “Concert and Conversation” private fundraisers and initiated private tours of the clinic which brought in additional supporters and revenue. Additionally, Dr. Moore serves regularly in the clinic assisting with patients applying for services and continues to offer his time, skills, and talent to serve the board, staff, volunteers, and patients of St. Luke’s.

Howard K. McIntyre Award 2009

The award for “Exemplary Commitment to the Healthcare of Citizens of Spartanburg County” is given in honor of Howard K. McIntyre, whose generosity and commitment to providing healthcare for the uninsured helped establish St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic in 1992. In 2009, St. Luke’s honored Mrs. Helen Montgomery Johnson, RN with this award. Mrs. Johnson has served in the clinic regularly, typically once per week, since 1992.  Her kind, genteel nature and professionalism are contagious, and St. Luke’s is so appreciative of Mrs. Johnson’s work and dedication to helping our patients in need.
